Vertical Insensitivity
(Don’t take this seriously)
Forms always ask that question “What race do you consider yourself?” Like, if I’m white I could consider myself to be an Alaskan Eskimo if I wanted. Well I say why can’t the same logic be applied to height?
I’m a little over 6 feet tall, so I always get the question “Did you ever play basketball?” That’s a stereotype and highly offensive. I suppose they think all tall people are the same and play basketball. They also think all tall people can reach the top shelf at the grocery and have to duck to pass through small door ways. Well, just because I’m a tall person doesn’t mean I identify as a tall person. I consider myself to be somewhere around 5 feet tall, not too tall yet not too short.
Think about this: Would you ask a midget to get you something on the bottom shelf? No, so apply that same logic to tall people. Just because a person is tall doesn’t mean they can or want to reach the top shelf to get your can of brunswick stew. The next time I’m in the grocery store and somebody asks me to reach something for them, I’ll just say “Wow, that’s offensive. You think that just because I’m tall that I identify myself as a tall person? That is very vertically insensitive.”
